The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024 (GSER 2024) is a comprehensive analysis of the current state of startup ecosystems worldwide. Now in its 12th year, the GSER provides insights into the world’s leading startup ecosystems, emerging trends, and key challenges facing entrepreneurs. It is based on extensive research and analysis of data from 4.5 million startups across 300 global ecosystems and over a decade of independent research and providing policy advice to more than 160 economic and innovation ministries and public/private agencies in over 55 countries. The Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024 (GSER 2024) is a comprehensive analysis of the current state of startup ecosystems worldwide. With the GSER 2024, we hope to provide valuable perspective on the global startup landscape and actionable recommendations for entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and other stakeholders looking to drive innovation and economic growth even in these challenging times.

22 On Sloane is proud to announce the launch of the Township Digital Market Access programme which is in partnership with UK-South Africa Tech Hub. The programme aims to empower and onboard 200 township small and medium enterprises (SMMEs) from Soweto, Diepsloot, Tembisa, Hammanskraal and Soshanguve onto E-commerce and Marketplace platforms such as Takealot and Spaza Eats using Last Mile delivery such as Mapha Logistics and Delivery Ka Speed.

GEC+Africa 2024: Empowering Entrepreneurship Across the Continent

GEC+Africa, a regional extension of the Global Entrepreneurship Congress, brought together founders and leaders from over 43 African nations, united in their quest to advance entrepreneurial activity and drive economic growth across the continent. This year's event featured international thought leaders and practitioners who are part of a global movement to make it easier for anyone, anywhere to start and scale a business. Building on the success of previous GEC+ events, initiated by the Global Entrepreneurship Network in 2017, GEC+Africa 2024 fostered connectivity and collaboration on a local, national, and global level, inspiring innovation, and collective ambition among participants. The congress served as a testament to the power of entrepreneurship in shaping the future of Africa and beyond.

SMME Job Creation in South Africa Report: A GEC+Africa 2024 Legacy Project

The National Planning Commission (NPC) recently released its ten-year review of the National Development Plan (NDP). The NDP review revealed that the vision for South Africa outlined in the NDP has not been realised over the past decade. The review revealed that the NDP has been marginalised, leading to fragmented planning and ineffective implementation. The report lists the reasons for not meeting the NDP goals as varied and interconnected, including systemic issues exacerbated by factors like the COVID-19 pandemic, unsuitable policies, declining governance, corruption, rising crime and growing social fragmentation.
