President Ramaphosa to acknowledge the recipients of the 2nd National Presidential SMME and Cooperatives Awards

The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) launched the Presidential Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise (SMME) and Cooperatives Awards in 2022 to celebrate excellence and reward high-impact SMMEs that continue to innovate and drive economic welfare.

This year, the awards in its second year will be hosted on 17 November 2023 during the Global Entrepreneurship Week in partnership with the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (Sefa), the European Union (EU) and 22 On Sloane.

The Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is celebrated each year globally in efforts to help millions of people around the world unleash their ideas to start and scale new businesses.  Powered by the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), GEW is this year being celebrated from 13 – 19 November 2023.

President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister of Minister of Small Business Development Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will be joined by the GEN President, Jonathan Ortmans in commemorating the many strides South Africa has made in advancing entrepreneurship as the country prepares to host the first Global Entrepreneurship Congress+ Africa from 13-14 March 2024.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address and confer awards to the winners.

 

The following categories will be recognised at this year’s Awards

  1. Cooperative of the Year
  2. Best-Employing Cooperative of the Year
  3. Best Performing Rural Cooperative Banking Institution
  4. Best Performing Urban-Township Cooperative Banking Institution
  5. SMME Business owned by person with disabilities
  6. Youth-Led SMME of the Year
  7. Homegrown SMME of the Year
  8. Rural Based SMME of the Year
  9. Breaking Ground SMME of the Year
  10. Women led SMME of the Year
  11. Start-up Business of the Year
  12. Township SMME of the Year
  13. Social Enterprise of the Year
  14. Business Development Services Provider of the Year.
