Women have become a target interest group in energy as they are the mainstream users and producers of energy. They influence or make many family decisions to purchase or facilitate energy production within households. Women’s leadership in the energy sector, purchasing power and experience as primary users and managers of natural resources are being increasingly recognized. However, significant challenges for women in energy remain related to finance, technical assistance, mentorship, and underlying social norms.
It is imperative to address the access to knowledge, capacity, and financial needs of women in the energy sector, in the Small and Growing Businesses (SGB) segment and in their pathways to growth. Hence platforms such as accelerators and incubators play a significant role in the education and capacity building of women owned small businesses and startups that have the potential to change the game in the Energy sector. Moreover, to ensure success where gender and energy intersect, support needs to be offered to this ecosystem such that Women in energy can experience growth and thrive in the industry.
22 On Sloane in partnership with the Circle of Global Businesswomen (CGBW) will be hosting a Women In Energy Masterclass on the 30th of June 2022. This will focus on the impact of women in renewable energy, how to start a business in renewable energy and two energy female entrepreneurs will share their entrepreneurial journey in the sector.
