Celebrating International Women’s Month: UNDP In Partnership with 22 On Sloane Awards 10 Small-Scaled Female Owned Businesses USD$5k Seed Grant

The United Nations Development Plan South Africa (UNDP) In partnership with 22 On Sloane launched the Post-Covid Early Recovery Grant 2021 which aimed to support 10 small-scaled female owned businesses in townships. This Seed grant was in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the civil unrest which took place in July 2021 particularly in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng Province in South Africa.

During 22 On Sloane’s annual Global Entrepreneurship Week in 2021, the UNDP Seed Grant winners were announced during a virtual ceremony on the 11th of November 2021. The winners of the Seed Grant funding were:

 

– Zimkhitha Radebe ( Africaita )

– Sinethemba Khati (Physic Aid)

-Tholakele Makhubu (TN Passion for Poultry)

-Thabisile Masoka (Asikhule Chill Zone)

-Sanelisiwe Mlaba (Nuz events and Communications)

-Ipfi Mushavela (Keki & Kekana Kiddies)

-Janet Okoye ( Redplam Consultants (Pty) Ltd

-Tshepiso Sibisi (Mwari Piza House)

-Lindokuhle Sidu (Mashawushawu Enterprises)

-Gugu Zimu (Azimele Consulting)

 

To ensure that the Seed Grant Winners use the funds efficiently, we disbursed the money in two tranches. Both disbursements were done after the two Masterclasses which focused on Financial Management and was facilitated by Ms. Memory Zimba and Mr. Sibusiso Khumalo with the aim of assisting the ladies to manage their funds efficiently which will lead to enhanced business performance. Furthermore, we had a strategic session with the purpose of creating a platform for the ladies to obtain sound advice and guidance to address their business problems as well as help them in igniting innovative ideas that would lead to business success. In celebration of #internationalwomensday observed on 08 March, the UNDP and 22 On Sloane announced the awarding of USD$5k seed grant each to 10 female entrepreneurs in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng townships. This initiative forms part of the UNDP and 22 On Sloane’s ongoing efforts to support the Department of Small Business Development to advance small business development in the country.
